Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Specialist

He was born in İskenderun, Hatay in 1982. He completed his elementary, secondary and highschool education in different cities of Anatolia because his mother and father were teacher. He completed his undergraduate education at English Faculty of Medicine, Marmara University in 2007 and was entitled “Medical Doctor” title. During his compulsory service in Siirt, he started his public health specialization at Mustafa Kemal University and worked as research assistant. In this short period, he decided to study on Surgical Medical Sciences and left his job. He started to practise in the field of General Surgery, his passion, at Ankara Oncology Training and Research Hospital in 2009, working as resident physician. During his residency training, he worked mostly on oncological surgery and breast surgery cases. After completing his specialization, he started to work as general surgery specialist at Yıldırım Beyazıt University Yenimahalel Training and Research Hospital. In hospitals he worked as specialist physician, he worked mostly on the laparoscopic upper digestive system surgery and minimally invasive hernia surgery. In this period, he focused his works on obesity and metabolic surgery by being influenced by the changes in patients after bariatric surgery. As of 2019, he established Surgeon Güven Görkem Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Clinic, named after himself, to provide better service for his patients with the team he created. Dr. Güven Görkem, who has been performing successful surgeries for patient from many different countries in his clinic, still provides service in his own clinic.
